Dear Parent/Guardian

Free Numeracy Courses for Parents

As part of Seven Kings' work as a specialist Science and Technology School, we have been offering free numeracy courses to our parents.

We would like to invite you to the sessions, which run every Thursday afternoon from 4.00pm to 5.30pm in room 29. This will lead to an Edexcel entry level 1 or level 2numeracy qualification. The course is aimed to improve parent's competence in Mathematics, which in turn can improve the level of help you are able to give your children.

We now need to confirm your interest in attending these sessions and request a few minutes of your time to complete the attached form.

Alternatively if there are enough parents that are interested in GCSE foundation Mathematics course then we are happy to run this course too.

We are delighted to offer these courses free of charge.

If you are interested in joining either course please complete the attached form and send to Seven Kings High School, Ley Street, Ilford, Essex, IG2 7BT by Friday 7th ofOctober. Places are limited.

Free English Lessons for Parents

FREE ENGLISH LESSONS

Many members of our families use other languages besides English. There may be someone in your family who does not speak English as well as they would like. Maybe they are complete beginners or they can understand and say quite a lot but they would like to improve their speaking or their reading or their writing.

We have been running English classes on Tuesday afternoons for over a year and the people who have been attending have made a lot of progress and are now much more confident in English.

Classes are:
�   Open to all relatives of SKHS students.
�   For beginners and for those who already speak some English but want to improve.
�   Taught by a qualified, experienced teacher of English for speakers of other languages.
�   Every Tuesday at 4.10 and last for one hour.
�   These lessons are completely free. There is no charge. You do not have to pay.

Anyone who wants to attend these classes should come to the main reception area at 4 o'clock on Tuesday 20th September.

Ref: Communications from Seven Kings High School

As you know we try very hard to keep parents regularly informed about what's going on at the school. However, sending paper letters home can be rather 'hit and miss' with letters often going astray along the way.

We are also increasingly aware of the substantial cost, time and environmental impact associated with the amount of paper and photocopying involved with this.

To help improve these areas we have decided to use a service called ParentMail, which is used by over 3,500 schools across the UK to communicate with 2 million parents by email and text message.� We will only be using text messaging in an emergency e.g. school closure.

ParentMail will be beneficial to you because:

- Messages will get to you reliably
- We can send messages directly to parents/carers at the same time
- You will quickly know about important or urgent messages
- We can tell you more about what's going on at the school

To use ParentMail we need to collect your email addresses and mobile numbers and we would ask you to complete the attached form and return it to us by this Friday, 13th May 2011.

Please be assured that ParentMail is registered with the Data Protection Registrar and guarantees that all information you provide will be kept private and will not be passed on to any other organisation.

NEW! Login to the VLE from this site

You can now login to the Virtual Learning Environment without leaving this website.

From today, when you click on any link for the VLE a brand new pop-up will appear on the page asking for your VLE username and password. Enter these details and click on the login button.

You'll then be logged directly into the VLE and will be able to browse to your courses.

Parents Gateway for Year 7 parents

Parents of our new students in Year 7 will soon be able to access our parents gateway. Letters with your unique username and password are being sent home with your child this week. Please look out for this important communication and keep it safe.

What is the Parents Gateway?

The Parents Gateway allows you to view your child's individual timetable and reports at any time. You can also contact your child's Learning Leader directly from the gateway and add your contact details to our email mailing list. It will also give you access to the additional news, photos and videos that we publish on our school intranet.

We, Seven Kings High School, are the Data Controller for the purposes of the Data Protection Act. We collect information from you and may receive information about you from your previous school and the Learning Records Service. We hold this personal data and use it to:

Support your teaching and learning;
Monitor and report on your progress;
Provide appropriate pastoral care, and
Assess how well your school is doing.

This information includes your contact details, national curriculum assessment results, attendance information and personal characteristics such as your ethnic group, special educational needs and any relevant medical information. If you are enrolling for post 14 qualifications we will be provided with your unique learner number by the Learning Records Service and may also obtain from them details of any learning or qualifications you have undertaken.

We will not give information about you to anyone outside the school without your consent unless the law and our rules allow us to.

We are required by law to pass some of your information to the Local Authority and the Department for Education (DfE) �

Connexions Services - Once you are aged 13 or over we are required to pass on certain information to the Connexions services. Connexions is the government's support service for all young people aged 13 to 19 in England. We must provide both your and your parents(s) name and address, and any further information relevant to the Connexions services' role. However, you (if you are over 16) or your parents can ask that no information beyond name and address be passed to Connexions. Where has the parents gateway gone?

Welcome to the new website and this new blog for parents.

Those of you who used the parents gateway are probably wondering where it has gone. The good news is that it has been integrated into this new website.

To load the gateway hover over the Parents menu at the top of this page and select 'Parents Gateway'. The data will then load and an extra set of menus will appear on the left hand side of the page, allowing you to switch between viewing your child's timetable, reports or looking up the key dates for your child's year group.
